Notes about Harm Jans Post

Harm Jans wordt in 1764 en 1804 genoemd als bewoner van Hollandsche Veld. Hij woont in het Vierkante Blok, op de zuidkant van het opgaande en bezit een praam.

In 1807 had hij, nog steeds wonende te Hollandsche Veld, vijf koeien ("hoornbeesten"). Hij moet dus een redelijk goede positie hebben gehad binnen de groep veldbewoners, want een koe was in die tijd een statussymbool. Hoe meer koeien, hoe hoger het aanzien. Het aantal koeien bepaalde tevens de hoeveelheid weiland die men nodig had om ze te weiden en bepaalde dus de hoeveelheid grond die men ontgon. De stukken bouwland waren meest kleiner dan de stukken weiland. Natuurlijk gold ook het omgekeerde: men kon niet meer koeien kopen dan de grond bij de boerderij aankon.
